Getting the right fit isn't just about comfort it's about safety. An improperly fitted harness is the leading cause of "cat-astrophic" escapes. Use this guide to ensure your feline explorer stays secure in their Tactical Mini-K9 Gear.
Step 1: The Chest Girth (The Most Important Measurement)
The chest measurement is the primary factor in choosing a cat chest harness.
How to measure: Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the widest part of your cat's ribcage, right behind the front legs.
The Golden Rule: Keep the tape snug but not tight. You should be able to fit one finger between the tape and your cat's fur.
Step 2: The Neck Measurement
Even though our tactical vests are highly adjustable, the neck opening must be wide enough to clear the head but snug enough to prevent "backing out."
How to measure: Measure around the base of the neck where a collar would naturally sit.
Step 3: Finding Your Tactical Size
Once you have your numbers, compare them to our cat harness size chart:
| Size | Chest Girth | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 8" - 11" | Kittens & Small Cats |
| Medium | 11" - 14" | Average Adult Cats |
| Large | 14" - 18" | Large Breeds (Maine Coons) |
Pro-Tip: If your cat is between sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. Our escape-proof cat harness vest features four adjustable straps to tighten the fit perfectly to their body.
